Goku

Saiyan name: Kakarot

The hero of this story. Throughout the series, Goku's distinctive personalities that have made him such a popular hero remained the same. He has a good and pure heart, without being overly sweet that he gives you a toothache.

Originally sent to earth as a baby on a mission. To destroy the living inhabitants of earth so the planet can be sold to other races across the galaxy, Kakarot fell off a ravine and lost his memory, becoming the nice boy that we know of today.

If I try to give you a summary of the things Goku has been through, I might as well give you a summary of the entire series of Dragon Ball, and since I have already tried to do something similar to that elsewhere, I'm just going to try and stick to telling you what Goku is like instead.

Always carefree, and someone that others can naturally count on. This pretty much sums up what I think of Goku.

In doing things, Goku never seems to mind what others might think of his actions, as long as he knows that there is no harm in what he is doing. Some may call this cluelessness, and though it might be true in certain cases, nevertheless, Goku has taken on a carefree look at the all things, something the stressed out people of the world need to learn to do.

While in tense situations, when it seems all hope are lost, Goku almost always has a way of letting others feel the age-old proverb of "where there's a will, there's a way." One of Goku's greatest strengths (which can also be considered his greatest weakness) is his ability to trust in the innate goodness of all living beings. In this way, he has turned many of his enemies into friends. A problem with this, however, is that this same quality makes Goku seem rather gullible. Though make no mistake--Goku is nobody's fool. In time, Goku has learned to be not so gullible, yet still retain his trust for the goodness of even his enemies. At times he is able to bring out this goodness in them, and others, not... but Goku tries. So it is no wonder that Goku is leading the popularity polls among Dragon Ball fans, and will, more likely than not, continue to do so.

Technique - Besides a certain combat instinct, Goku practices a lot and is the first one to reach SSJ and SSJ3 states. He has had several martial arts masters in his life and one of them, an old man called Master Roshi, teaches him the famous KameHameHa, a devastating technique that can blow a hole through just about anything (battle opponents included). Firstly, a great amount of energy is concentrated between one's hands (Gohan actually gets to do this with just one hand, during the battle with Cell). The picture on the left shows the final phase of this move, the part where the "Ha" syllable is pronounced and the accumulated energy is released. When Goku dies for the first time (weird thing to say, if you think about it) he meets a curious creature called King Kai. This is one of the elements of a monarchic dynasty in the Otherworld and he gets to have his own personal, despite small, planet. Here, Goku learns another technique, called the Spirit Bomb. This allows Goku to concentrate energy from living beings in the vicinity (a light-years wide vicinity, if necessary) by holding up his hands, creating a huge fireball that he throws at the opponent. Its effectiveness varies. First attempts against Vegeta didn't work all that well, but eventually he suffered serious damage by it (actually, it was Krillin who launched the attack, guided by an injured Goku, who gave him the powers). It also failed at first against Freeza, one of the major villains, who was able to defend himself without much fuss. Yet later, while Goku's friends distracted the evil creature, our hero was able to concentrate a huge amount of power (it took him several episodes to do so!) and Freeza almost got killed.
